About Me

Position Statement

People with various life experiences and backgrounds can have fears about coming to therapy. You might fear I will not understand you, not believe you, or might discriminate against you or harm you.

This might be because of what you’ve experienced from therapists or mental health professionals in the past, or this might be what you’ve heard other people with your experiences or identities have
been met with when they come to therapy.

I am not perfect, and will always have more to learn, but I aim to provide as safe a space as possible and help you decide if I am the right person to help you. I am happy to answer any questions you might have before proceeding to therapy.

It's important to note that therapy with me, or with any other therapist, isn't easy. People come to therapy because they want something to change, and change is often hard and emotionally demanding work. With this in mind, I aim to walk alongside people, encouraging them to grow and change but never pushing them beyond where they are ready to go.

Who I've Worked With

As a clinical psychologist, I have a range of experience working with clients from all backgrounds. In particular, I have experience working with and an interest in supporting people with marginalised identities, including:
  • People who identify as LGBTQ+. I am explicitly and vocally supportive of trans and non-binary identities. I am against all forms of conversion therapy. I also identify as a queer person.
  • People in larger bodies. Everyone has the right to bodily autonomy. I am acutely aware of the pervasiveness of fatphobia within the health system and our society in general and how it can have a huge impact on mental health and wellbeing.
  • People who have been or are involved in all forms of sex work.
  • People who are neurodivergent and/or disabled. I have a lot of experience working with people who have various diagnoses, or who are in the process of getting, or struggling to get a diagnosis. This includes ADHD, ASD, dyslexia, chronic pain, EDS, fibromyalgia. I am also dyslexic and dyspraxic.

My Approach to Therapy...

In our busy lives, we often don't get the time to stop, think, and reflect. Sometimes, worries and other troubles build up without us even noticing until they reach a breaking point. Or perhaps we are constantly aware of them but lack the time and space to work through them, and even if we did, we wouldn’t know where to start. Many of us face so many competing pressures that we can lose sight of who we are and what we want – or perhaps we've never had the opportunity to find out.

We can become so busy that we never take time out, and many of us don't spend time simply looking after ourselves. Society tells us that it is self-indulgent or lazy, but taking time out for ourselves is essential. We all need time to learn to care for and love ourselves, which in turn will enhance all our relationships. Therapy is your time for your mind. It is space just for you, with no demands or pressures. I treat everyone as an individual, and together we will decide how therapy will work.

I aim to provide a non-judgemental and calm space where you will feel safe to bring your difficulties and vulnerabilities. I believe that everyone has the potential to grow, change, and flourish, no matter what they have experienced or what stage of life they are in. I can hold onto hope, even if you find it difficult to have hope for yourself. My experience as a therapist over the past 10+ years has taught me that recovery is possible for everyone, and I consider it an honour and a privilege to work with people and see them get better. I am professional but also authentic – who you see is who I am. I will always be honest with you and am happy to answer any questions you may have.
